The CBF West region is providing nine ministry grants of $400 each to congregations who need assistance in creative ministry. Three grants have thus been awarded to:

* First Baptist Church of Glendale, California, for the creation of an “Art Kitchen” ministry to neighborhood children aged 6-12 years. The church is renovating an old kitchen into a children’s art center, and the grant provides seed money for the renovation and initial publicity. Charles Updike is the church’s pastor.

* Mountain View Community Fellowship Church in Boise, Idaho, to assist in the expansion of their youth music program. Some of their youth members have created the “Boise Korean Dance Mission Group,” and the group has been invited to perform and witness in the city’s annual Boise Music Week. Other doors with ministry opportunities are opening for the group, and the grant is assist the group in its ministry in Boise community. Mamie Oliver is the church’s pastor.

* University Baptist Church in Honolulu, Hawaii, to help with the church’s “Garden Project,” a fresh food ministry. Food sold in Hawaii is expensive because of the distance required for shipping. University Baptist Church is creating garden plots for the growing of vegetables, to be maintained by church members. Food grown in the gardens will be given away to church and community members.
