CBF West region held its spring conference in Boise, Idaho, April 29-30. Hosted by Mountain View Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Baptists from throughout the thirteen states that comprise the region gathered for a focus on ethnic ministries, social justice issues, and four centuries of Baptist history.

An ethnically diverse congregation that is home to one of the larger church community ministries in Boise, host congregation Mountain View welcomed the opportunity to fellowship with other western Baptists.

Dr. Mamie O. Oliver, the congregation’s pastor and a professor of Social Work at Northwest Nazarene University, spoke of her own experiences as first a pastor’s wife, then a pastor, in congregations from Rhode Island to Idaho. She also served as worship leader for the two-day event. Another highlight of the conference took the form of special music by Boise’s Karen choir.

National Cooperative Baptist Fellowship personnel Harry Rowland (Director of Missional Church Ministries) and Devita Parnell (Congregational Resources Specialist) addressed the conference at large. They also met with the CBF West coordinating council to discuss ways to enhance the partnership between national CBF and the western region, including church planting strategies.

Glen Foster, CBF West Coordinator, gave a presentation about CBF West’s Arizona Border Ministry. Bruce Gourley of Bozeman, Montana, executive director of the Baptist History & Heritage Society, led a series of presentations on the 400 year story of Baptists. Lita Sample of San Francisco, CBF Global Missions field personnel, gave a report on Fellowship efforts to combat human trafficking.

On behalf of the CBF West region, Foster presented a $500 ministry grant to the Treasure Valley Ministry Center located at Mountain View Community Fellowship Baptist Church. Additional offerings collected during the meeting were divided between the Treasure Valley Ministry Center and CBF West.

Rick Sample, CBF Global Missions field personnel in the San Francisco area, is CBF West moderator. Joy Yee, pastor of Nineteenth Avenue Baptist Church in San Francisco, was elected as new moderator-elect.

The CBF West region comprises thirteen western states, and member congregations and ministries represent the great ethnic diversity found along America’s western coasts, desert southwest, and the northern Rockies. For more information, go to http://www.cbfwest.org/about.html.
